The talent behind the film made this movie an interesting prospect from the start, as Oscar nominee Greta Gerwig has stepped down to direct and co-write the film with her partner and fellow Oscar nominee Noah Baumbach. It stars Margot Robbie in the title role, followed by Ryan Gosling as Barbie’s boyfriend, Ken.

Back in 2015, the “Rocky” franchise got its own spinoff with “Creed,” Ryan Coogler’s story of Adonis Creed, the late heavyweight champion, the son of Apollo, and his journey to success and faith as a boxer. The film was a huge hit for Coogler, star Michael B. Jordan and “Rocky” icon Sylvester Stallone, who won a Golden Globe for their work in the film.
