In the US, the Governor of New York Province, Kathy Hochul, has declared a disaster emergency in view of the increasing cases of monkeypox.
In a statement, Ms. Hochul said, “I declare a disaster emergency in the state to further strengthen efforts to combat this outbreak.
Monkeypox infection is spreading rapidly in New York.
Till Friday, 1,383 cases of its infection were registered.
"More than one in four monkeypox cases in this country are from New York, and we need to use every tool we have," she said.
The emergency was declared a day after New York's health commissioner declared monkeypox an imminent threat to public health.
According to the latest figures, more than 5,100 people are reported to have been infected with monkeypox in the US as of Friday.
The highest number of cases are in New York and after that the state of California is in second place.
