President Joe Biden held a phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping for 2 hours and 17 minutes.

Joe Biden discussed many issues with the Chinese president, including tensions over Taiwan, trade disputes and growing economic competition between the two countries.

Xi Jinping warned the American leader not to 'play with fire' on Taiwan. This is said by the Chinese state media.

One of the biggest talking points was how Nancy Pelosi would visit Taiwan.

On the issue of Taiwan, China said in a statement that safeguarding territorial integrity is the firm will of the 1.4 billion Chinese people and the Chinese government.

Tensions between the US and China over Taiwan have risen in recent months.

China said Thursday that Xi Jinping "firmly opposes" Taiwan's independence and any interference by outside powers.
