What is the dispute between China and Taiwan?

Taiwan, an island located about 100 miles off the coast of southeast China, considers itself a sovereign nation. Taiwan has its own constitution and Taiwan has a government elected by the people. But historically Taiwan was once part of China and China wants to recapture the island.

The Communist government of China still claims Taiwan to be part of its country. Because of this this controversy is happening, and the dispute between China and Taiwan is 73 years old.

When did the conflict between China and Taiwan start?

If we look at the pages of history, then this mutual rivalry is very old. This whole story starts from the year 1644. At that time China was ruled by the Ching dynasty. Taiwan was then a part of China. China and Taiwan separated after World War II.

In 1895, China ceded Taiwan to Japan. It is said that all the controversy started from here. Then in 1949, during the civil war in China, the Communists led by Mao Zedong defeated the nationalist Kuomintang Party led by Chiang Kai-shek.

After the defeat, the Kuomintang Party reached Taiwan and formed its government there. Meanwhile, Japan was defeated in World War II and handed over control of Taiwan to the Kuomintang .

The dispute started over the fact that when the communists won, they would have the right over Taiwan. On the other hand, the Kuomintang argued that they had lost only in parts of China but that they officially represented China, so they would have the right over Taiwan । Since then, the conflict between China and Taiwan started.

Why are China and America giving so much importance to Taiwan?

Taiwan is also called the country of intellectuals, even though its population is small, but it is number one in the world in terms of technology.

Taiwan ranks first in the world in terms of chip making. They are used in advanced weapons and artificial intelligence, a country producing everything from laptops to expensive phones and watches. The Taiwanese company is a major one of the world’s largest chip makers. In terms of chip manufacturing in the world, this company alone produces more.

In such a situation, the entire world is dependent on Taiwan for the chips used in everything from electric vehicles, Phones, laptops and satellites to ships. The problem with China is that it is also dependent on Taiwan for these chips. At the same time, America also wants to build new semiconductor factories in its country from Taiwan. America does not want the security of the country to be affected if work stops there due to tension.

If China establishes its dominance over Taiwan, it may be successful in establishing its dominance in the western Pacific Ocean.
that is why the America is completely shocked about Taiwan.

Despite China’s threat, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday.

“We cannot stand with China in a situation where it continues to be a challenge to Taiwan and democracy,” Pelosi said. We have made this visit at a time when the whole world is struggling between autocracy and democracy. By visiting Taiwan, we honor our commitment to democracy and reiterate that the freedoms of Taiwan and all democracies must be respected.

Pelosi said the sole purpose of her visit to Taiwan is to stand by her side while expressing support for self-governing Taiwan. The Opinion Peace said, we have made this visit at a time when the whole world is struggling between autocracy and democracy. Russia launched a war against Ukraine, killing thousands of people, including children. It is imperative that America and its allies make it clear that we will not succumb to authoritarian forces.

Even before Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, China had deployed warships along the border separating the Taiwan Strait.
